Waterproofing of ballast troughs for railway

WATERPROOFING OF BALLAST TROUGHS

According to the instruction VSN 32-81 for waterproofing structures of bridges and pipes on railways, roads, and urban roads, it is recommended to use built-up materials such as roofing felt for surface waterproofing, followed by pouring bitumen, applying sand, and laying a concrete screed. However, this method has certain disadvantages, including changes in the condition of bituminous materials and deterioration of seams over time, leading to cracking, leakage, and destruction of concrete troughs.

Our company has developed a method for waterproofing ballast troughs using poured polyurethane materials, which have a long service life of at least 50 years. This method was developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Ukraine and the State Enterprise “Starokonstantinovsky ZhBSH Plant” for implementation in their facilities.

However, the main document regulating the use of elastic waterproofing with a deformation coefficient of 150% in the repair of bridge structures is DSTU 8904:2019
