Coatings for food production and water pipes

In the field of tank protection for food production, we often discuss substances that are hazardous to health or water. High requirements must be met to ensure they do not uncontrollably enter the food or the environment. For example, the internal coating of tanks and pipes in fixed installations must receive approval from special authorities. The German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) issues these permits in accordance with the “Principles for the Approval of Coating Materials for the Production of Interior Coatings of Steel Storage Tanks.” For successful approval, chemical resistance is regularly verified by an independent testing body.

Due to the variety of different media, their concentrations, and chemical properties, individually designed system solutions are indispensable. Therefore, checking resistance lists at an early stage is useful. They provide information on the resistance of coating systems to various media – through long-term tests both in direct contact with the media and in the vapor zone. However, responsibly managing the storage or transport of such media involves more than just selecting the optimal coating system. Only industry-specific advice and qualified service can ensure the desired quality and safety.
