History
The origins of Sherwin-Williams trace back to 1866 when Henry Sherwin, a Cleveland bookkeeper, invested in the paint distributorship, Truman Dunham & Co. Following the dissolution of this partnership in 1870, Sherwin teamed up with Edward Williams and A.T. Osborn to establish Sherwin, Williams, & Co. The company’s first production facility, acquired in 1873, was a cooperage previously owned by Standard Oil in Cleveland.

By the beginning of 2023, it had become the world’s largest producer of coatings.
